Mercedes-AMG SL is completely new from the ground

Mercedes-AMG SL is completely new from the ground The eachnew Mercedes-AMG SL has been revealed to the world and it aims to blend the spirit of the original SL with the luxury and tech plant in ultramodern Mercs. Not only is this the first SL to be developed entirely by the Mercedes-AMG division, but it’s also the first since the R189 generation of 1989 to offer a two- seat innards layout and a fabric roof.

Two variants of the soft-top sports car will initially be on offer when the model arrives in Australian showrooms during the second half of next year; an entry level SL55 4Matic, and a flagship SL63 4Matic+. According to Mercedes-AMG, an all-new composite architecture – made from aluminium, magnesium, and carbon-fibre – shreds weight, and increases rigidity by an estimated 18 per cent (over the outgoing model).

Six selectable driving modes are available, accessed via a steering wheel-mounted toggle switch: “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport +”, “Individual” and “Race.”

Mercedes-Benz’s full suite of autonomous safety technology comes standard, and do eight airbags. A range of 12 standard paint colors will also be offered, alongside a selection of 19-, 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels. Powering the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster is a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8. The engine on the base SL 55 model produces 469 BHP and 700 Nm, while on the top-spec SL 63, it is tuned to churn out 577 BHP and 800 Nm. Both versions are mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, sending power to all four wheels via Mercedes’ 4MATIC+ system.

The new Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster claims to be able to sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).
