Google IO 2020: What to expect | Android 11 | Google Pixel 4a

Google IO 2020 (the company’s annual developer conference) is still months away but will develop quickly by May 12 and May 14 if all measures are taken. And while a developer conference may not feel this exciting voice, we very much expect Android fans to be interested in it – especially the unveiling of Android 11. In Google Pixel 4a and Google Pixel 4a XL, there is a lot of potentials to appear there, and we can see, among other things, the long-rumored Google Pixel Watch. In other words, Google IO is not just for developers. Below we have highlighted all the things we know or expect to see there, as well as some things that are long term shots that may show well. We will update this article as soon as new news and rumors are revealed. So check back regularly.

Android 11

Android 11 will likely be the biggest reveal on Google IO 2020, and we can almost certainly see it, as Google is offering its biggest Android update, at least partially, to IO. That said, it likely won’t show up on the phone until September or October, and may end up with the Google Pixel 5 range. Some tasks may not be presented even after IO.
We haven’t heard much about Android 11 yet, but we know that it is “scoped storage” that changes the way you access other files on your device, including speed and security. Is increasing It’s not much, but we should learn a lot about Android 11 on IO 2020, and it is likely that a developer beta will be launched there as well.

Google Pixel 4a / Pixel 4a XL

While the Google Pixel 5 arena likely won’t land until October, there is a possibility that Google Pixel 4a and Google Pixel 4a XL will appear in Google IO 2020 with the Google Pixel 3a region in the central region. 2019 was. It was announced that you can imagine a more economical alternative to these main Pixel 4 handsets, though some sources believe that it will not have the XL model, so we can only see a Pixel 4A.

In any case, the leaks suggest that the 4A may have a different design to the Pixel 4, with a hole-in-hole camera and 3.5mm headphone jack. It can also have 5G, which no current pixel does. Not much is known about the Google Pixel 4a yet, but motion detection by its more expensive siblings is unlikely, which to be honest, is unlikely to be a major loss for most people.

Apply an operating system update

Wear OS has felt somewhat neglected since Ware OS 2 launched in August 2018, as there are no significant updates to the platform. However, if Google releases an important new update, it will have to be searched by software. This is the obvious place. It just happens that we don’t really expect any major changes because there are no rumors and you’ll probably be inauspicious if you hope for OS 3, but you’ll ever do what I don’t know
It would not be surprising if the platform received a smaller, more incremental update, even if it was currently an estimate. As a reference for IO 2019, Google has provided the function 201 tile as a widget.

Google Assistant

Google is constantly working on the assistant, and at IO 2019, Google introduced technology to accelerate Google Assistant and a driving mode. For Google IO 2020 we expect new functions and improvements. Having said that, Google announced several new features at CES 2020 in January, such as scheduled tasks and a speed dial feature, so some of them could be introduced.

Google search

Google Search was also very well received in IO 2019, and we would not be surprised if it was further improved in Google IO 2020. We are not sure yet what will change here. However, for reference, Google added augmented reality images to search results on Google IO 2019.

Other software updates

In addition to the above, updates and improvements are likely to be seen for other important Google software such as Maps and Duplex. Duplex may be more widely supported as maps may be more detailed or other features may be added. For now, this is just speculation. However, we would be surprised that these or other important Google apps were not updated.

Google pixel watch

We have heard rumors about the Google Pixel Watch for years. Frankly, we don’t really expect it to end on Google IO 2020, but the company has released wearables from other companies in recent years, so it’s possible. At the moment we are not completely convinced that the Pixel Watch also exists. If so, it may not land ahead of the Pixel 5 series until October or next year.
However, if it lands on Google IO 2020, we may also see a larger Wear OS update than we expected, as it would make sense for Google to launch its first smartwatch with exciting new software.

New smart home device

From speakers to screens to cameras, we were able to see a large number of new smart home devices on Google IO 2020.
At IO 2019, we saw the Google Nest Hub Max Smart Display, but Google has shown its fingers in many smart home pieces, including the Nest Hello HelloBell, Google Nest Wi-Fi and Google Nest Mini speakers, as well as smart thermostats. , Smoke detectors and more. We may see new entries in one of these product lines or intelligent versions of other devices.

Google Stadia

Google Stadia (the company’s game streaming service) is already available, but currently only “Stadia Pro” is available. So you only need a subscription to use the service instead of buying the game. This will change sometime in 2020. Therefore, it is possible that Google uses IO 2020 to start the “free” stage. There are also some promised features that are not currently available, such as b. “Crowd Play”, which allows you to participate in streamer games at the push of a button. These or other features can be introduced in Google IO 2020. New exclusive games for the platform can also be announced or launched. Perhaps most exciting is that Stadia is open to non-pixel phones. We know that it will happen at some point and it is one of the main selling points of the platform.

Google Play Pass

Like the Google Stadia, the Google Play Pass is already available, but currently only in the United States. We know that it was published only some time ago. Perhaps Google IO is where the range is expanded. We wouldn’t be surprised if Google also announced all kinds of new content for its Apple Arcade-like games and app subscription service.

Augmented and virtual reality

AR and VR have gone up and down a lot in recent years, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw new developments in these areas at Google IO 2020. One obvious thing we can see is the improvement in ARCore – a development kit developed by Google that can create AR experiences for Android and other platforms. VR announcements may be less likely as Google has largely abandoned its VR headsets, but you never know.

While many 5G networks and the first 5G phones have arrived in 2019, we hope that 5G will really gain importance this year. 5G phones are likely to be more affordable and the proliferation of 5G networks should continue. For this reason, we expect Google to deal with 5G as well. It is rumored that the aforementioned Pixel 4A has a 5G variant. However, Google may also announce apps and software features that leverage 5G speed.
