The Microsoft Surface Duo is the first dual-screen Android smartphone, which was finally launched on September 10 – after months of teasing online. In addition to receiving a specific release date, Redmond’s expected phone also received an official price tag. The Surface Duo was revealed in October last year with the Surface Neo dual-screen tablet, Surface Laptop 3, Surface Pro 7, and Surface Pro X. It comes with a 360-degree hinge and has two separate OLED displays. Microsoft also introduced a separate Surface Duo SDK to allow developers to optimize apps for the new form factor.
Microsoft Surface Duo Price and Availability
The Microsoft Surface Duo starts at $ 1,399 (~ Rs 1,04,600), Microsoft revealed via a blog post. The device will be available for purchase in the US from September 10. Meanwhile, The Verge reported that pre-orders for the Surface Duo will begin later today through AT&T, Best Buy, and Microsoft’s online store. Details of the Surface Duo’s global launch are yet to be revealed.
Microsoft Surface Duo specifications and features
The Microsoft Surface Duo features two 5.6-inch (1,350 x 1800 pixels) OLED displays with a 4: 3 aspect ratio, providing a resolution of 2700 x 1800 pixels and an 8.1-inch PixelSense Fusion display with an aspect ratio of 3: 2. Let’s come together. The device also features an 11-megapixel camera sensor with f / 2.0 lens slot at the front. This means that the camera can be used to make selfies and video calls. However, if you are looking for a multi-camera setup with bokeh effects or optical zoom, you may not be happy with the specific hardware.
Under the hood, the Surface Duo features an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC processor with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. There are also two batteries with a total capacity of 3577mAh.
The Surface Duo will not come with 5G support. Instead, it will have 4G LTE. You can also expect other common connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a USB Type-C port. In addition, Microsoft has developed a dedicated drawing pen that can be used to draw and save handwritten notes on the device.

In addition to its regular specifications, the Surface Duo is claimed to come with enterprise-grade security based on Microsoft’s internally integrated Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). Smartphones can also be connected to the full Windows 10 experience in the cloud using Windows virtual desktops. Similarly, Microsoft targets enterprise customers with support for its own device (BYOD) scenarios.
